I like to build cool things.
Even if it's just a small project, building the thing better helps me understand how it works. I could just read documentation on new tech but why not incorporate it into a node server or something to see how it works in a use-case?
Here's some apps I built myself:
And some projects I developed with a team:

Code for Good West Michigan's Weekend For Good is a fantastic event that I volunteer for every year. It's a weekend-long event where a bunch of us nerds meet with various non-profits to see how we can help them from a technological viewpoint. It's a lot of fun and I truly wish it happened more than once a year.
This year, my team and I re-designed a marketing site and built a new web app for Beyond The City. Beyond The City is a non-profit that aims to share the love of travel and new experiences with underserved youth in the Greater Grand Rapids area. The marketing site is hosted on Wix while the new web app is using Payload and Next.js. Beyond The City believes "Travel can significantly build confidence and boost development of youth as they make their way through unfamiliar territory, both physically and psychologically."
Last year, I had the pleasure of working with the Grand Rapids African American Health Institute (GRAAHI) to minimize their content into an intuitive user journey for Sickle Cell Anemia.
In 2022, I to helped Lighthouse Immigrant Advocates build a full-stack application proof of concept (In a weekend!). The app included Twilio (notification service), Next.js (front-end), Google Calendar integration, and an Express API to communicate the services.
